Contemporary literature has witnessed a significant expansion in addressing the concept of urban humanization as a planning approach that emphasizes enhancing quality of life and achieving a balance between infrastructure and human needs. This approach highlights the importance of human-centered urban environments that promote social interaction, environmental sustainability and public wellbeing [Mostafa & Alshahrani, 2024; UN-Habitat, 2024; WHO, 2023].
Urban humanization refers to a planning idea that tried to enhance life quality and obtain a balance between human demand and manmade resource. This perspective manifest that the urban environment must be based on human body and life and keep public health, individuals, and environmental sustainability inter-communized [WHO, 2023; Alshahrani & Mostafa, 2024; UN-Habitat, 2024].
One of the most important criteria for such paths is that they be isolated from-while also sharheing a comprehensive service infrastructure with – nearby vehicle roads [Boeing, 2018; MTAP,2011].
A key design objective for these roads is to separate them from adjacent motorways, while allowing for all of the requirements to be met through a comprehensive, integrated service system [MTAP, 2011; Boeing, 2018].
Poor air quality has well-documented effects on physical health, cognition, and labor market outcomes, yet far less is known about whether ambient pollution affects psychological well-being. This study examines whether long-term exposure to air pollution increases the likelihood of frequent mental distress among adults living in Appalachia, a region characterized by persistent economic disadvantage and elevated health burdens.
Various studies have shown the adverse effects of poor air quality on physical health, cognitive health, and labor market outcomes. However, there is limited knowledge about the impact of environmental pollution on an individual’s psychological health. The focus of this research is on evaluating whether long-term exposure to air pollution causes recurring mental distress among adults residing in Appalachia, a region that has been suffering from economic disadvantage and excessive health concerns.
